Prince is an eight month old black lab pup who has had a very rough start to his young life. He was found lying in a field by a couple who went out to feed their horse one afternoon. They heard whimpering and located Prince unable to stand or walk. They took him in and gave him shelter from the cold rain and took him to the vet the next day.
After x-rays were taken, it was discovered that Prince had been shot in the back and then hit by a car and left to die, but he had somehow managed to crawl into their pasture. The main injuries were to his back left leg and hip. The bullet luckily did not hit any major organs and came to rest above his spine. The couple who found the dog could not afford the expensive surgery to repair his leg and Prince was sadly to be put down.
However, it was Prince's lucky day! He had many people making calls for him to raise money for his surgery...then a good Samaritan stepped in and paid for the entire surgery out of his own pocket! The wonderful doctors at Countryside Animal Clinic in Burleson performed the orthopedic surgery which required plates in his leg and a long recovery of bed rest for 6-8 weeks. After spending the Holidays at the vet clinic, Prince is now healed and ready to find his new forever home!
If you or anyone you know might be interested in adopting this little guy or have questions about him please email his sponser Peter at http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/dc/mailto:%25e%25.Thank you and please pass this along! Donations to the vet clinic for his boarding are also welcome!
One of the technicians I work with at the Emerency Clinic rescued a dog and needs to find her a home.
Shiloh is approximately 2-3 years old, spayed, healthy but was a weak positive on HW snap test when found but has been on heartguard and may have cleared. She is a very sweet girl, high energy, smart and very trainable but hasn't yet been to obedience school. She seems to get along fine with other dogs once introduced to them, is good with kids. She has never been around cats so not sure how she is with cats. She is crate trained and house broken.
Please let me know if you know anyone who may be interested.
Oh my goodness! If the face doesn't melt your heart, I don't know what will!
If you can help in any way, please contact Susan at sltpowell@att.net
If you know of ANYONE who knows anyone that knows anyone...that would be willing or has any experience with blind and/or deaf puppies, this little doll is being fostered at my cousin Jennifer's home-but whatever environment she adapts to would make it harder for her to adapt to something new later on (I told Jen she might be increasing her family...),
so if you have a spot for her in your heart and home, please let me know and I'll hook you up. She is blind and deaf-I think about 6-8 weeks old.
Australian Shepherd-so pretty big later huh?
What a cutie though...goodness, look at that face!

Friday, March 6, 2010: Hi everyone,
Since many of you have a much larger list of people who might be interested I am forwarding this story along. If you know anyone who might be interested in a wheaten terrier this could be a great adoption opportunity. My Frazier came from the WIN rescue group and I can personally attest to their care and vetting processes.
Please forward to any of your pet friendly friends - so happy to see these babies were removed from the puppy mill.
"This poor fellow got lost and when he approached someone he thought would help him, they sprayed him in the eyes with some pepper spray, leaving him blinded for a few moments and scared for a while, but very willing to accept the help of the people who wanted to help him." This is the shelter description of Jack, who was originally named Pepper, at the shelter, for obvious and sad reasons.
Captured and taken to the shelter, where he also ended up on the euthanasia list, August Dog Rescue found this deserving boy impossible to turn away. He has been named Jack, a more fitting and peppy name for such a young, spry guy. He's completely forgotten about his past life and is now thoroughly enjoying the comforts of his new, pepper spray free life!
Jack is aLabrador Retriever mix,1 year old, approximately60lbs,fully vetted, vaccinated, andneutered. Jack is great with other dogs and people but has yet to meet small children or cats. Jack ishouse trained, crate trainedandleash trained.
Jack makes his foster family laugh every day."He has the young lab clumsiness and goofiness that makes everyone smile. He especially loves to roll on his side for belly rubs! "
Are you looking for a young, good natured, easy going boy like Jack? If so, please emailaugustdogrescue@gmail.com

One of the guys in my office has this adorable little pug/jack russell mix doggie and he is looking for a new home for her. He is not home a lot so she spends too much time alone :( She's 6 months and full grown (the vet said) She's fixed and has all of her shots. She even comes with a pink sweater.. a pink leash, a water bowl, a full bag of food and doggie toothpaste. She is house broken but with him being gone for long periods of time, she has had accidents from time to time. She is not a bark, bark, barker but will let you know when she needs to go potty. If you know of someone that would give hera good home, I think she would make them a really great pet. She loves peope and just wants to be where they are. Loves rides too! I have a picture of her attached. Just look at her shiney black coat! Please contact me if you know of anyone or have them call me at 469-644-5341. I have a few other emails out about her as well.

Soldier's Dog Request!
Andon lives in the Houston area. Here's Andon's request.
"So I'm leaving for Basic Training for the Army pretty soon, and I need someone to take care of my best bud while I'm gone. His name is Darren, he's barely a year old, and he's very friendly. He can be an inside or outside dog seeing as he's potty trained. And he doesn't have a problem with other small dogs but he doesn't seem to get along with bigger dogs very well. I'm really looking for someone that I can trust to take care of him and hopefully someone with a big backyard. I'll be gone for 10 weeks and I'll pay you $100 and buy him enough food to last him while I'm gone. Let me know if you can help asap! Call or E-mail! Andon 713-373-7362"
If you can help please do, or if you know someone in the Houston, Tx area that may be able to help look after this soldier's dog. That would be great.

Bios:
This scared little fellow was found running as a stray, seemingly scared of everything he saw. While he has been here at the shelter he has been housed with other dogs and does very well with them. He is being marked rescue only because his fear, which causes him to growl and snap at some people, and that has risen some concerns for us. He will allow people to slowly pet him and will approach to be petted but if you move too quickly he becomes scared and will curl his lips and growl a bit. He needs time in a much quieter, calmer environment to feel comfortable enough to let his guard down and let the real dog from inside of him come out. He more then likely would do better in a adult household where their are no small children to scare him.

This very handsome well behaved boy was running stray with his Buddy Max (pictured separately) when they both ran over to meet with two other dogs who were being walked by their person. The meeting did not go as well as Oxford and Max had hoped and a fight broke out between the 4 canines. While Max received no injuries, Oxford was not as lucky. He ended up with a several puncture wounds and a torn ear. One of these wounds is on his chest and is large. He is currently eating and drinking well, he is playful and he appears to have no trouble urinating or defecating. However, he will need medical attention as soon as possible to treat the wounds he received during the fight. Our shelter does our best to make the animal comfortable but we do not have a vet on staff to properly treat the animals.

I rcvd this urgent message from Jason Flatt a pitbull rescuer with Friends of the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue. This is an urgent situation..please can you read, crossport or help in any way??
Hey Everyone, I know this is really not a great time for rescues.. but I need some help. There were 98 dogs seized in a raid in Dublin GA. 60 of the dogs had to be put down due to illness and or aggression. The 38 that are left are mostly the young dogs and litters of puppies taken from the property. I Drove 3 hrs with my good friends Debbie and Gene from LIFELINE Animal Project to evaluate and photograph these dogs. These dogs are highly adoptable..They have all been temp tested. Most were little wiggly butts that just wanted to play and give kisses. They are beautiful pups. Most are between 6 and 10 months old and have not seen the ugly side of life. They are all heartworm negative. They will need to be fixed which we can help with. I need to find homes for all of these dogs by March 31st. The lease on the warehouse is up at the end of March. These dogs deserve really good homes. We can arrange transport to any qualified rescue or individual. If you have room for 1 or two, please contact me. These dogs are sweet as can be.I really need some help on this one.. I will not give up on them.
If any group would take in this mama dog and/or her pups please let me know. I will get all her medical stuff paid for after then she will need a place to go. She is young still a puppy herself. Her puppies should be showing up in about another 3 weeks. Not sure where they are but they will follow mama for food when they are old enough to eat.
You may email about Girley.

Wednesday, Feb 24, 2010: The Beagles (1 male/1 female) below were at a feed store Friday (02/05/10). They assumed they had been "dumped" in the area. The guy let them stay in his hay barn that day but wouldn't allow them to stay overnight. Of course, when I met a friend over there that evening, he more-less "volunteered" me because he knew I wouldn't have the heart to turn them down, knowing they would be left in the cold, wet & clearly hungry. A long-time friend of mine has allowed them to temporarily be at her house (for now) because I have several already & just can't (space & money wise), unfortunately, take on anymore. She also can't keep them & really needs them gone before her landlord finds out.
They were Scanned that Saturday and are not chipped, approximately 2 yrs. old w/healthy pink gums, appear housebroken & are very laid back. They are under-weight, un-altered & on Iams food at this time. I know they need to be vetted (i.e., shots, chipped, spayed/neutered, wormed, etc.). Do ya'll know ANYONE at all that could take these guys in, whether it be a rescue, foster or a great new furr-ever home (prefer 3rd option but not picky at this point)? They are each other's shadow & I know they will be separated if a rescue takes them (that's if they even have the room to take them at all). Sweet, sweet, sweet pups!!!
Let me know ASAP. I'm open to any & all suggestions except a shelter. I refuse to take them to a shelter & I know my neighbors wouldn't appreciate 2 more!
We have a Jack Russell Terrier named Beau (formerly male, now neutered), he will be 4 years old in April 2010, and he is in need of a new home with lots of room to run and other (big) dogs to play with. We are asking a $100 adoption / re-homing fee, and will include several items worth more than that to help with his care. JRT's can cost many hundreds of dollars when purchased from breeders.
He is a wonderful, joyful dog in so many ways, but there are certain truths about JRT's that one must face and accept. He is rambunctious. He jumps with joy when he sees you, as much as 3 feet in the air. He likes to dig under the fence and escape for a walkabout in the neighborhood. We have been called by virtually every neighbor we have to let us know that Beau has come to visit them for an afternoon. He is extremely friendly to all people; but he is a Rat Terrier, and he will happily chase, capture, and kill anything smaller than him with fur or feathers. So far, his death toll includes: one muscle-bound raccoon, 3 possums, two squirrels, countless birds and rats, one neighborhood cat (very sad), many frogs and toads, and a few things I could not identify post-mortem. As far as I know, none of THOSE were people.
He is smart, but stubborn, and nothing in the world makes him happier than running through the woods with you on a long rambling hike. I take him off the leash, and he darts through the underbrush, sniffing and chasing critters. Periodically, he runs back to me to check up on me, then rockets off again. He loves to chase skipped stones into a stream, barking and biting at the water. He is a strong swimmer.
Beau *adores* people, he craves attention and affection, and he loves playing roughhouse with big dogs (if he gets too rambunctious with a big dog, Beau will submit if the bigger dogs snaps at him to put him in his place, but he will dominate a smaller dog, including biting it, if left alone). He needs lots of room to run, lots of companionship, another (larger) dog or three that he can play with, and no smaller dogs or furry animals around to tempt his Terrier heart.
Right now, Beau lives on our backyard covered deck, in a converted dog crate that I customized with a bolt on space heater to keep him toasty in the winter. He loves it in there, and keeps quite warm, despite freezing temperatures outside. I will include this crate with Beau, plus a leader, harness, and leash, as well as his dog bowls. Of course, he would love it even more to be able to sleep in the house with everyone else, but we have a small indoor dog that belongs to my daughter, so 'that dog won't hunt', so to speak.
As JRT's go, Beau is large for his breed (our vet told us he was the largest pure breed JRT he's ever seen; he weighs about 27 pounds). His health is excellent. He did have a health emergency once when he chewed up some old towels we had used to line his crate, swallowed a hunk, and had it lodge in his intestines. This necessitated a surgical intervention, but within a few weeks, he was back to his old bounding self. I think he learned his lesson about towels; I also learned my lesson and now make sure I give him lots of chew toys, rawhides, etc, to satisfy his natural tendencies. He also enjoys finding pecans in the yard, cracking them open with his teeth, and munching out on the meat inside. Crazy dog.
Nothing keeps Beau down for long. We love this dog, he will make the right person or family a wonderful companion; but his needs for attention and other (did I mention LARGER) dogs to play with leads us to sadly do what is best for him. Our yard is too small to accommodate a big dog; hopefully, someone with an acre sized yard, or a farm, and several dogs, would be interested in giving this loving and loyal dog a new home. If you're not too far away, my son will want to come visit every now and then.
Email me with your phone number, and I will call you to discuss Beau, if you are interested.

Colleen is adorable. Any assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I want her to have a loving home. She is super sweet and affectionate.
Duchess and Duke have been at the shelter for about a month and no one has shown any interest. Both are completely vetted, HW neg. They came in together from a private individual because they lost their home. Duchess is 4 yr old and Duke is 2 yrs old.
They need rescue ASAP. Please contact me at this email if you can help.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be willing to take on 2 older dogs. Their 80-yr-old owner is having to sell his house and move into assisted living for financial and health reasons. Somewhere in the forwarding of photos etc., the narrative about the 2nd dog was lost. David Daly's phone: 972-241-6465 DavidCDaly@aol.com
Tommy is in good health with a little arthritis and current on his shots. He is thirteen years old, weighs 50 pounds and is a good companion. He does enjoy visiting with folks and tolerates cats and children a little. He does not like to be pulled on by a three year old grandchild and will tell them so. He does announce, bark, at visitors, squirrels, postmen, other dogs and cats in order to protect his territory. He is lovable and cozy. He does not like thunderstorms and will hide under a desk if he can until they go away. He lives in a house without any accidents and will let you know when he wants to out into the back yard. He loves to take a walk and a ride in the car.
Friday, Feb 19, 2010: This email is from a friend of mine. Anyone want a dog? Julie
Our yellow lab, Sandy, had 6 puppies. Their father is a golden retriever. They are now 3 months old, about 30 pounds and growing, smart, fun, and adorable. Do you or anyone you know want an adorable puppy? We would like to give 2-3 away to really good homes with room for the puppy to run and play. They have had the first 2 sets of puppy shots. If you don't want one, could you forward this to someone who might that you would trust with one of our wonderful pups? They are so sweet, and I adore each one. I would love to keep all of them, but Skip is saying no.
Here is a male Basset Hound Mix. He is about 1 to 2 yrs old maybe. He is very pretty in color. He has one blue eye. He can walk on a leash and is good with other dogs. He is good with kids he is also calm. He may be house broken will not potty in the kennel. He is a sweet boy. He was picked up as a stray and no one has claimed him at this time. He can be released from the shelter MONDAY if no one claims him. He will need to be adopted or rescued by next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Basset Hound rescue told me that they think he is a Basset Ador... ? Basset Lab mix?
Please help save him if you can. He is a good boy and needs a good home that will not let him get away. Please call me ASAP if you can help save him or want to tag him. 903-348-3122
Thank you all.

Calvin had some trust issues with a couple people when he came in, so the shelter placed Calvin in a boarding facility where he could get more training. JP is a trainer who works thru a group called Operation Kindness and he was assigned to Calvin. Calvin has now been at the shelter for 11 months and although he has made great progress, no one has shown any interest in adopting him. JP has been told his time for working with Calvin is done and decision must be made by the shelter.
Calvin is a beautiful , 15 month old neutered male Great Pyrenees mix. He is 95 lbs and has had all his shots. He knows the basic commandsSit, Down, Stay and walks on a lead without pulling. He gets along with other dogs and gets along with nearly everyone, but since he had a problem with one or two people at the shelter, they are being very cautious about placement.
JP knows how special Calvin is and he is hoping that through this message we can find the perfect home for this gorgeous boy.
To watch videos of Calvin and to see more of his behavior around dogs and people go to these links.
Here is Calvin on his first day with other dogs. Notice they put a basket muzzle on him to start but were soon able to remove it.
Please help sweet, friendly Alice if you can. Other than being hit by a car, she is healthy and adoptable. Her injury does not appear to be extensive. Alice won't last long before she is euthanized. Additional details below. CROSS POST PLEASE.

If you know anyone who wants to adopt this cat let me know. He does not get along with my lab (Max) too well. He is an affectionate cat and he is jealous of Max . . . Max is getting tired of being teased and the cat will be on the losing end. He has been neutered and declawed (front) . . . an inside cat.

This is Sake, my seven year old Akita. I need help finding a home for her. I have had her since she was 6 months old so this won't be easy but I don't have a choice right now. She is really sweet. She is great with kids and not the dominant dog in my current household but you will have to introduce her to another large dog carefully. I think she tries to dominate anywhere else she can since she can't at home. Sake needs exercise and I don't give her that a lot so anyone active would be great. The worst thing about Sake is she gives too many kisses! If you know of anyone that would take care of her and love her that would be great. All I want is for her to have a good home.
Really sad situation. Someone passed away and Little Bit the Yorkie (ID 9616206) and and Buddy the Maltese Mix (ID 9616216) are now at the shelter ... look at their sweet little eyes. I see what Elise means in her note below - that she could not stop thinking about them.
THEY NEED YOUR HELP - please, can you save them?

Tuesday, Feb 16, 2010: This pretty little calico is just precious; not coincidentally, her name is Precious. Please read, and forward to your friends.
Her story: A very pregnant Precious showed up in March 2009 at a feral colony in Oak Cliff managed by a friend of mine, Diane Blaine. After the kittens were weaned, Diane got her spayed. Precious is happy in the colony, but Diane says she's just too sweet and loving to live her life outdoors, and she would really like to find a home for her. Precious is probably about 1 ½ - 2 years old now.
If you might have a home for Precious, know someone who does, or can take her to foster, please contact Diane Blaine at 214-339-4842 (she doesn't have email). Thanks for your help.
Pepper urgently needs your help. He is a one year old purebreed Black Lab that is running out of time. This is a BEAUTIFUL DOG. He's been at the shelter for approximately 2-3 months and needs your help ASAP. They cannot continue to keep him and he needs out ASAP.
This dog is VERY SWEET AND SO LOVING. Wonderful personality - calm and very, very sweet. They believe him to be about a year old, and it truly is his winning personality that has so made everyone want so badly for him to be saved. They tell me he doesn't jump, and is extremely calm for a dog of this young age and breed. This is exactly the type of Lab people look for ...
I understand he walks well on a leash and does great with other dogs. Came from a home with 3 other dogs, where the owner just could not afford the impound fees. Will need to be neutered and updated on vaccinations.
He's been at the shelter far too long already and they just cannot continue to hold him.
The contact is Kerry Payne. Phone number 214-513-8228. E-mail address is NTACA@HOTMAIL.COM
(We were asked if we could help get the word out on this dog by Kacie, the new ACO at Lake Dallas and she said Pepper is a wonderful dog - please, won't you help?)
Pepper currently with the North Texas Animal Control Association (NTACA). (For those of you not aware, this is a private animal control that works with 5 or so small cities. It is in Roanoke, TX and the Metroport Humane Society helps post their dogs, but the dogs are not part of MHS - they are at risk of euthanasia and need your help).

Please send this to any one you can think of that might be willing to help. Someone dumped two very pregnant cats on me in the Argyle,TX area. I am in a situation where I can no longer take in any more cats or dogs at this time. One is a calico and the other one is a white/orange tabby. I need to find them homes before they have the babies or I will have to send them to the pound in Denton and that's the last thing I would want for them. They are both very sweet cats.
Reverence for Life is a philosophy that says that the only thing we're really sure of is that we live, and want to go on living. And this is something that we share with everything else that lives - from elephants to blades of grass. So we are brothers and sisters to all living things, and nothing else, neither race nor colour nor religion nor sex, should be more important than this one deepest, most extraordinary thing connecting us. ...to help find homes! Listed below are the current dogs in our program seeking their long awaited Valentine's (read: forever families!). Theywill also be showcased for adoption this Saturday at Gold's Gym Uptown <2425 McKinney Avenue, Dallas> from 11am-4pm.
Happy Valentine's Day! Kate -- www.augustdogrescue.org -------------------------------------
RORY Rory is a 1.5 year old Dachsund mix, weighs 14 pounds, is neutered, vaccinated, cratetrained, housetrained and leashtrained and can use the doggie door! Rory gets along well with dogs and children but is a bit too curious about cats. Rory is a cuddler and is as content laying on the couch watching TV as he loves running around out in the back yard. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14958962>
PIPER Piper is a Shiba Inu / Terrier mix, and her foster family believes the terrier mix to be that of a Jack Russell, as she is full of energy. She is 9 months old, weighs 26 pounds, is vaccinated, healthy, spayed, house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and great with most other dogs and people. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14971469>
ZENA Zena is a gorgeous, slate colored Cane Corso Mastiff / Pit Bull Terrier mix who is estimated to be around 4-5 years young (no crazy puppy training!), weighs about 60 pounds, is spayed and vaccinated and vetted, cratetrained and 97% housetrained and leashtrained. She adores all people, including children, sleeps next to her foster mom's cats, and has been great with all of the non-alpha dogs (big and small, male and female) she's been introduced to (and there have been many!). We do not know how she would be around alpha-dogs, but we do know that with canine savvy kitties and non-aggressive dogs, she fits right into the pack! <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15077501>
TIFFANY Tiffany is a 1 year old Chihuaha, weighs 10 lbs, is fully vaccinated, spayed, house and crate trained, and leash trained with a harness (this is a must). At her request, "Princess" is to always precede her name. Tiffany is great with other dogs, kids and women. Tiffany has a very strong and misleading (don't let the Diva fool you) fear of men and would do best in a household with only women. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15167971>
ROSIE Rosie is an Australian Shepherd/Corgi mix, 11 months old, 32 lbs, spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, cratetrained, and quickly catching onto housetraining and leash training! Rosie is very sweet and gets along great with other dogs of all sizes (currently with dogs ranging from 14lbs - 80 lbs) and would love another young dog with whom she can roll around and play with. Because of her disability, she would do best in a household without cats or young children as she startles easily. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15209414>
MIA Mia is a Lab/Mastiff mix, 2 years old, 50lbs, fully vaccinated, spayed, house trained, leash trained, and crate trained. Mia is great with other dogs and people, but scares too easily around kids and should stay away from them. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15257685>
MIKEY Mikey is a Shepherd mix, maybe with some Black Mouth Cur, 6 months old, 30 lbs (at 6 months old this should be pretty much full grown), fully vaccinated, neutered, potty trained, crate trained, and awesome on his leash. He is great with people, other dogs, and cats! <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15259314>
SAM Sam is a Labrador Retreiver/Shepherd mix, about 2 years old, 60lbs, neutered, vaccinated, house trained, leash trained, crate trained, and is great with other dogs and people. Sam has not met any cats while with us. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15354547>
JOEY Joe Black is a Labrador Retriever mix, 9 months young, 40 lbs, vaccinated, neutered, house trained, leash trained, and crate trained. Joe is great with people and kids, but has yet to be tested with any cats. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15369751>
COLE Cole is almost 1 year old, a Heeler/Lab mix, 40 lbs, healthy, fully vetted and neutered, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. His foster mom thinks he is an ideal dog for agility (strongly encouraged), he is fanatic about retrieving and is a little frightened of men. Cole does well with other dogs, plays nicely and does very well at doggie daycare. He has not met any cats while in foster care, but given his energy level and his love of "fetching" small objects, they are likely not a great idea. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15405020>
HANDSOME JACK Handsome Jack is a Yellow Labrador Retriever mix (we are thinking the mix is a bit of chow), approximately 2 years old, weighing in at 60 pounds. He is neutered, vaccinated, housetrained, leashtrained, and great with other dogs and kids. In his foster home he hasn't met any cats or any very young kids, though there isn't a reason to think either would be a problem. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15419171>
HERMIE Hermie is a Hound mix, approximately 3 years old, 45 pounds, neutered, vaccinated, house trained, leash trained, crate trained, great with with other dogs and people, but has not met any cats. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15637086>
MIA Mia is a Lab mix, 3 years young, only 35 pounds, fully vetted, spayed, vaccinated, house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and great with other dogs, cats, and people of all ages! <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15685420>
SIMBA Simba is a Shepherd mix, about 2 years old, 50lbs, fully vetted, vaccinated, neutered, house trained, crate trained, leash trained and, obviously, fantastic with other dogs and people. Simba has not met any cats. <http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15692302>

Here are his comments about them:
"The dogs are around 6 months old or so. Someone dumped them out because they did not want them and they just happened to find me. I felt bad for them because they were starving, and because of the weather, and one of them looked like it had been abused...so I started feeding them. I really have no need for two dogs right now and I really didn't want to have to call the pound. They are still skittish but approachable."
A FELLOW NAMED STUMPS: Yes, these photos may be every bit as disturbing as you think they are at first glance. We got them from one of our longtime tipsters, Kim Buckman, who lives near Corsicana, 30 or 40 minutes southeast of Dallas.
She says the "first thing that came to my mind" when she saw this boys food and leg was "snare."
"I live in a very rural area and farmers and ranchers still compete with livestock when it comes to their cattle."
Of course, we don't really know and Stumps isn't talking. Could have been a childhood encounter with a coyote trying to drag him off. Maybe an encounter with a farm implement.
But here's the rescue story. Kim reminds us that she had planned on taking a hiatus from rescue "but needy animals keep finding their way to me. I really need your help if at all possible. I have exhausted all of my contacts and have not received any responses... I know you are able to reach many caring people and hope that you may be able to help."
And there's the tribute to you, dear Readers - you really do come through for these animals.
Kim explains that a week ago "two separate dogs at two separate times found their ways to my doorstep. "We don't ever see strays out here so I have to wonder where these two came from. We live in a very rural area now and we don't have too many neighbors.
"I need help with both of them but this one has proved to be ?special' and I think he really deserves a chance. I believe he is a Lab mix about 2 years old. He is unaltered.
"Here is where things get crazy. ?Stumps' as I have been calling him is missing his front left paw and his front left leg has been broken. These injuries are old and have healed themselves and he is getting along fine and has adjusted well.
"It is possible that he will need an amputation as he has an issue with a large callous that has developed on his elbow.
"Stumps is a sweetheart of a dog. He has gotten along well with my dogs and has even been gentle with my one-year-old son. He has spent some time inside and has had no accidents. I am hoping and praying for a rescue group or an individual to take him on. This guy really deserves a family after all he has been through."
Well, the stars or St. Francis were working for this one......
I saw this dog two miles from my house on the way home from work. Three hours later, she was in my front yard. No kidding. She had two choke collars on, one ZIP TIED too tight. No tags. She had crusted dog poop on her neck, face, and on her legs. She seems fed, however. Does not know commands, but is SUPER sweet. Not one peep from her during her 45 minute bath! Didn't want to get in the bathtub, but didn't make a sound when we picked her up and put her in it.
We have two dogs and three cats! PLEASE! Someone adopt her!!! Or at least foster! We will obviously help with first round of the
bills/transporting of her. I am member of rescue group, I can help you find permanent home if you foster. She's a Malamute, which means smart, loyal, a working dog. But independent (probably would like to be only dog...gathering this from the internet, though. Could be wrong). However, she has had no issue with my dogs or cats. She has not been on the floor face to face with the cats, but has seen them on the counter and could care less. Actually walked past them to follow Francis around the house.
She's definitely beautiful. Wonderful blue eyes.
Please call or email me if you are intersted! PLEASE FORWARD!!!

Mia is one lucky girl to have been picked up and placed at a local DFW area shelter. A shocking statement, yes? Consider this: Had Mia not been dumped, she wouldn't have been spotted by her current AMAZING fosters, and she wouldn't have "hit the motherload," so to speakl! Her foster parents are true angels, visiting a particular DFW area shelter daily and blogging about the dogs in there, playing with them, photographing them, and giving them the exposure they deserve to find their forever homes. Now, they do this, and are wonderful for it, but they haven't ever had the chance to foster for an organization before! Mia stole their hearts and they immediately jumped on the bandwagon for this wonderful experience!
Mia is a Lab mix,3 years young, only 35 pounds, fully vetted, spayed, vaccinated, house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and great with other dogs, cats, and people of all ages!
Mia's foster parents are thrilled to have Mia with them and have really enjoyed seeing her come out of her shell since her dark days at the shelter: "I don't think anyone would recognize her as the same shy, fearful dog she once was. She's energetic, sweet and so eager for attention and praise. I love looking over to see her dark eyes shining at me. She grows more beautiful by the day. "
Can you give Mia the "Rise and shine! We're alive and it's a glorious day!" routine every morning for the rest of her little life? If so, please contact Kate at katemwatts@gmail.com
Baby Girl - pretty white GSD/Husky had gone to foster home, but her caregiver had to have surgery and she is back in the shelter! It is extremely urgent! She needs immediate rescue/..foster/..adoption.
Pretty 1 1/2 year old female.
She is friendly with most dogs. She is friendly and will walk nicely on leash. She is quite thin and could use some good food and a loving home! She was owner-turn-in because family moved.
Baby Girl is a 1 1/2 year old sweetheart that was dumped at the shelter because her owners moved away. She is friendly, but obviously scared and confused about what's happened to her. Her time is short
Baby Girl is UTD on vaccinations, neg. for parvo but low positive for Heartworm.
PLEASE HELP THIS BEAUTY IN KILL SHELTER!
Dear Friends,
If you are in the 'market', as it were, for a new fur 'baby' - this sweet, loving kitty is available. Her human mommy, Marge, was very sick and passed away yesterday. She was an only kitty. Mommy's human daughter cannot take her because the kitty does not get along with the ones she has.
She is 4-5 years old, declawed, and spaid (fixed). They've been calling her 'hissy' but she is a very sweet cat and never hisses.
* And for those who might suggest that I, the cat lady, take her - I can't. I was warned by my better half that if I come home with another cat, I'd better find another husband - and I think he means it this time......
Francine
Last week in two days I came upon 3 dogs. The first was a lovely young black shepherd running through my neighborhood. After seeing her hunger, coat, thirst and sweetness the vet determined her a stray and luckily Renee, who works with me took her in. The second was on Thursday, in the midst of the cold, icy rain two dogs with collars (no tags) ran directly into the patio at Lago (they heard we liked dogs). They either got out of their home or they were dumped with the hopes that someone would immediately take them in. I took them home for the night, keeping them away from Aki (b/c of possible parasites, etc). They are soooooo gentle, loving and such sweet buddies that they need to remain together. The vet at A.B. Animal clinic said they are about a year old and could be litter mates.
The tan girl has a bit of sharpie as seen in her little round eyes and wrinkles on her forehead.
~The black girl is long nosed, lab type with a white blaze on her chest.
~They are so gentle, mild mannered and quiet - even their walk is calming and loveable. They are inseparable w/the blonde looking after the brunette. I had no choice but to take them to animal services on Westmoreland. They were very kind and assured me that I can keep up with the dogs progress because I stated that I would like to find a home whether permanent or foster for them.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE If you can think of a place that will take them at least on a Foster basis contact me immediately.
Thank you

Lourdes, who found him, is going to take him to the vet tomorrow to get him checked out. Please pass this around and let's see if we can get him adopted!!to help Arnie find a home.

Fosters are the heart and soul of rescue, and we don't know anyone who has ever fostered who hasn't found it to be simply life changing! As we embark on a new month in a new year, how about a new special project - giving a deserving animal a new "leash on life"?!
August Dog Rescue has been blessed to have many wonderful fosters to work with -but we need a few more good foster homes, ASAP! The six (6) dogs pictured and described below are currently stuck in holding patterns, safe from euthanasia but in desperate need now of a foster home.
COOPER: straight out of the shelter and now at the vet Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever Gender: Male Age: 10 months Size: Medium to large Arrived as: Owner Surrender Shelter Bio: Cooper here was released to the shelter by his people who had received a barking complaint and who thought it easier to release the dog then to teach him when it is appropriate to bark and when it is not. Cooper is a good boy who is 10 months old and likes to play and run which would make him and ideal exercise partner and even better companion. According to his owners, Cooper is house trained, crate trained and spent much of his time indoors.
DOLLY: been out of shelter and in boarding for 2+ months! Breed: Shar Pei / Shep Mix (looks like may have some pittie in there too) Gender: Female Age: 1 year old Size: 40 lbs Dear Dolly here was rescued from a local DFW area shelter by a "new to the field" rescuer who had recently learned about the terrors of shelter life and euthanasia. Said rescuer was kind enough to get all of Dolly's vetting done, but had no place to keep her, as her home has cats and Dolly is a very excitable dog. So Dolly was boarded. For 2 months! And Dolly's excitement grew because of this. She has now completed a training course and is languishing in boarding, waiting for a foster home. Dolly is fully vetted, spayed, housetrained, leashtrained, and great with people and dogs when introduced properly (don't know about cats or kids as there are none in boarding!)
DUDE: straight out of the shelter and now at the vet Breed: Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: Adult Size: Medium Arrived as: Stray Shelter Bio: This handsome quiet boy was found running as a stray. He is a sweet gentle boy who no one has bothered to come looking for. He appears to be several years old est. 5-6 years or so, and to weigh about 50-60 lbs. He has some hair loss on his rump, and since we do not have a veterinarian on staff we are not sure of the cause. He is hoping his minor hair loss will not prevent someone from seeing what a great dog he is and how wonderful he would be as a house pet.
BELLA: straight out of the shelter and now at the vet Breed: American Bulldog Gender: Female (s) Age: 6 years old Size: Medium 45-55 lbs Arrived as: Owner Surrender Shelter Bio: This beautiful lady was released to the shelter by her people who lost their home and could no longer care for her. She is a sweet lady, who like sot play with the other dogs and reportedly is good with children of all ages. She is altered already and is about 6 years old or so.
BABY: owner surrender needing foster pronto!
Breed: Pitbull Terrier
Gender: Female
Age: 6 years old
Size: 50 lbs
Bio: Baby was in a loving home for 6 years before being surrendered because her owners apartment complex would no longer allow her breed. Despite being a gentle, loving dog, raised with kids and other dogs, this poor girl has now been kicked to the curb, sad and confused about where to go next. Baby is a beautiful grey pitbull terrier, 6 years old, approximately 50lbs, spayed, vaccinated, house trained, great with kids, adults, and other dogs, though sometimes prefers to be the only female.
SOPHIA: stray needing foster pronto!
Breed: Chocolate Lab Mix
Gender: Female
Age: Young
Size: 44 lbs
Bio: From the vet tech who spotted her (she is currently at the vet, on very borrowed time): She weighs 44lbs. Does not potty in her kennel and goes right out to do her business in the yard. I have no idea if she is housebroken because I know nothing about her. She appears young - she is very playful and has a happy attitude. She does a high pitched yelp and dance combo when she sees our work cat Puddin, but she has never tried to go for her ( I don't know that I'd trust her with a cat though). She does go crazy for squirrels in the yard. Other than that, I know nothing about her. I looked out the window at work 2 weeks ago and she was frantic in the parking lot. I dont know where she came from but she was thin and very hungry.
Sophie is in Louisiana , and she got lucky (for a while!) because after her family turned her in to a kill shelter, she was pulled for a few days of boarding. But her time there is running out. Krista emailed Salise at Friends For Life here in Houston; they will enroll Sophie if someone can foster her, and she has a ride over here. Or, if you want to adopt, we'll get her here!! Krista's email is Kristina.Junco@invescoaim.com .
My good friend, Karoline, is a tireless rescue crusader and has forwarded this dog that was just pulled from a kill shelter. Karoline has two rescues of her own and often spends her lunch hour traveling to kill shelters to save dogs that are about to be put down.
Per the below, this little Sophie sounds like a wonderful companion. Does FFL currently have any room for a foster? Or, have any thoughts on organizations we should reach out to? As mentioned below, transportation has been secured for her in the event that she can find a temporary or forever home here in Houston.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Do you know anyone who wants a sweet dog? This is Sophie. She is roughly 3 years old. Sophie is a graduate of a Pups for Prisoners training program, so she has already had basic training.
Her owner who adopted her from the Pups training program could no longer care for her and she and her sister Cleo ended-up in a kill shelter with 7 days to live. She ran out of days today. Sophie should have been PTS this morning, but with a little effort, she has been pulled and is at the Vet's office.
She is "absolutely gorgeous" and "very sweet" according to Carolyn who pulled her this morning. She weighs 46 pounds, has lived with other dogs happily, is a bit shy, and has wavy soft fur. She is low heartworm positive, which means she needs to be on preventative. She is likely a border collie/ great Pyrenees mix or possibly an aussie/ great pyr mix.
Sophie is currently in Louisiana, but can be transported almost anywhere and already has a ride if she finds a home in Texas.
Her former "sister" Cleo, a yellow lab, luckily got-out and is headed to lab rescue.
Bruno is looking for a running buddy whom he can accompany on daily training runs. An excellent pacer, good motivator and great listener, he guarantees you will be running new PRs in no time.
After spending two long months in an area shelter, Bruno, a young mixed, breed dog, was rescued in the nick of time and over the past few months has re-learned how to trust people and have fun again. He is now ready for his forever home with a loving person or family. Energetic, playful and affectionate, he enjoys nothing more than a good tummy rub. He loves attention and is looking for a home where he can be the only dog and have you all to himself. Bruno is neutered and current on all routine shots.

these are the 11 babies we rescued on the side of the road in the middle of no where Saturday following New Years. Tell me what kind of cold heart it takes to do something like that! They must have thought we were the people who had dumped them because they ran out to the road when we came around the curve then ran back into the thicket.....was very cold and they were so hungry.....would have been coyote food that night most likely!

Deacon is a wonderful, friendly Border Collie/Lab mix that is a little over a year old. He loves everyone, all other animals, even allows puppies to jump all over him. He is also a talker and will talk to you to get some attention. He isn't a barker or digger.
He was taken to a county shelter by kind people that found him by the road injured. He either was hit by a car or fell out of a truck. I had him picked up and taken to the vet where xrays showed no broken bones or damage although he was very sore and bruised in his hips. He had some superficial wounds on one leg that has healed.
Deacon is fully vetted and heartworm negative and will make a wonderful family pet. He is house trained, weighs appr 60 lbs and is full grown. He has the border collie hair but the head and face of a lab. There is not a mean bone in this boy and you will be very pleased with him.
If you would like to meet Deacon please contact me at DLFallis@aol.com.
From Kathryn:
I had a friend forward this to me yesterday, the puppy has white paws, black face, and a white spot on her chest...they think it's a mutt. She hasn't been to the vet yet. Can you find a good home for it or recommend where to take her? They have tried the shelters, but full as you know. I would love to take her myself, but just can't bear keeping her cooped up in an apartment!
This is Debbie Adamo (Mom of Fluffy) in San Antonio. Fluffy is 1 1/2 yr old female, good with kids (we have 5 living at home) and other pets (2 cockers, 1 guinea pig, 1 pet rat living at home). Unfortunately our house/yard is not big enough for her & the neighbors are complaining when she sneaks around us to get out the front door for a run around the neighborhood. She's a great dog and we love her, but she is really penned up here. Unfortunately, my husband has Parkinson's disease & I had my left leg badly broken in a freak accident last June (they say I may never be able to run again) so that neither of us is in a position to take her on long walks. She is due to be updated on her shots this month, and is not spayed. I would love to have her in a home with a large yard & lots of love. If you know of anyone, we would appreciate your help as I want to give her a great living situation.

I sincerely apologize for being a pest today, but it seems there have been a lot of end-of-year owner surrenders of pets. This link is from the Irving Animal Shelter - some of these sweet faces peering out of their cages may bring a tear to your eye, as the photographer put the photos to music.
The Shelter Hours: Mon - Fri 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Sat noon to 5:00 pm..Sun closed.

Can you all please post this for me? A dear friend sent it.........Ruby is her grandkids' dog. They are near the Tx.-Louisiana border...........Bridge City, I believe. I'm sure transportation could be arranged. Thanks.
Ruby's family lost their home during hurricane Ike. They lived in another home, but have now had to move to an apartment that does not allow dogs. They have her there, but it is a matter of time before she is discovered.
She is a border collie mix, quite pretty, highly intelligent & mild-mannered. She is spayed & has all shots. She is 4 yrs. old & has been raised with 2 kids. "She is very lovable, loves kids and loves to go outdoors. The vet has told us she is a border collie. She loves to play with dog toys." She is housetrained. She would be an ideal kids' dog. Attaching her pictures, although one was sent by phone & is not clear. Thanks so much.

Can you forward on to your doggie network? She's just too beautiful!
I was contacted by a friend who found these 3 pittie pups living in the alley behind their home. They appear to be approximately 4-5 months old and 18lbs or so. They have been given a dewormer and some food and water.
Please crosspost to see if a rescue group can them, or even just one. It is way too cold outside for these babies. They were given a big dog house to cuddle in until we can find help for them. They are social, playful, and just gorgeous! All 3 are females.
I will get them their bordetella and distemper/parvo vacs if someone will get them asap. We can also try to get more vetting donations. Thanks for caring!
Please contact me and I will transport them if needed. We put names on the photos for reference.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie
